I started making these wee dishes in a fit of needing to a create a small treasure. Something that you could pick up and be immediately surprised, small enough to nestle in your hand, turn it over, and be delighted that there was more to see.  The wee dishes can be placed on a ledge upside down to enjoy the pattern on the underside and then flipped over to be used.  I use a paper clay to make these, so the initial picking up becomes a surprise because you expect it to be heavier than it is.

I find I cannot stop making them because there are so many patterns, colours and lines to explore!
